This Weekend I Loved...

The sight of: my little toddler boy crawling like a pro across the floor. He has been able to clear the floor for a little while and we weren't sure how even watching him. Now he has an actual bonafide crawl and he was so proud he joined us in applauding himself afterward.
The smell of: toasting pecans and maple syrup when....
The taste of: Aaron made pecan waffles with real Vermont Maple Syrup a friend brought him from her parent's farm in Vermont. Wow. He made us a batch about 11pm Friday night and they were unbelievable. There really is a HUGE difference when using the real deal syrup. We're rationing this stuff.
The thought of: making the darling teddy bear bed above for my boy one day with little crocheted afghan for him. So cute.
The act of: completing the hand-piecing part of my first quilt (baby quilt - don't get too impressed!). That was the fun part although still rewarding. Now I have to baste it to the fluffy inside and backing before actually quilting it in a big hoop. Sounds like much more work. Maybe this is why most people use a machine!

Happy Anniversary

Last week my parents celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary so I have to say a big CONGRATULATIONS! Their continued love and support of each other has always been a standard for every relationship in my life. As far as the picture - this was the lone picture from the big night. They eloped which I think is the most romantic thing ever. I used to love playing dress up in mom's cute lacy wedding dress.

This Weekend I Loved......

The sight of: the lightbulb going off in our baby boy's head about how to move about the house even more efficiently. He can cross the room in no time and we're not exactly sure how.
The smell of: the sweet pines as we buzzed around in the Jeep doing morning errands.
The taste of: chocolate cake made by Richard with at least an inch of frosting. Yummmm. They came for outdoor movies and the second we got everything set and sat down it started to rain. So we watched "Finding Neverland" in the living room all snuggled up in blankets.
The sound of: Gus' squeaks and squeals. They were different this weekend. He's experimenting. I keep reminding myself he won't always do this and to soak it all up now.
The act of: (1)having the scorching hot weather be a perfect excuse to relax. We played with our babe and when he napped we passed out on the spare mattress in the guest room. It was great to slow down and let the heat zap us of energy. (2) I also enjoy thinking out Gus' new meals now that he is eating actual food. I love to see what he likes immediately, what he spits out to examine and then puts back into his mouth. He ate a chicken nugget at home, baby bananas and has eaten my lasagna and chicken noodle soup. This week I will try cheesy vegetables and pasta primavera.

Yard Play

Friends for the Fourth

Our friends Aime and Peter came to stay over the 4th with us and we had a lovely time. This visit was particularly special because not only was it the first time they got to meet Gus, but we also got to see Aime pregnant with her first baby!

Silhouettes - kids love Aime and Gus was no exception. She came bearing a rocket ship complete with space dog and alien that he has been enjoying very much.

We spent quality time in the jeep, on the patio relaxing, talking babies, playing cards....We also seem to have a ritual where they cook us dinner. Great hosts, aren't we? Its great fun for us as we sit in the nook and chat with them while they make us a yummy dinner to enjoy. We always leave with fun cooking ideas and lots of bonding time.

And of course, we ate a few bisuits! We can't wait to go visit them in Kansas City next year!
