Wednesdays With Friends

Every Wednesday we get together with our friends for dinner. Usually it is Mexican but we decided to try our new neighborhood deli. We probably won't be back anytime soon since it took several tries to order before finding something they weren't out of and then waiting and waiting for the food we did order. Oh well. We tried.

Luckily we had Harrison and Gus to entertain us while we waited to be fed. Tune in soon for pics from the farmer's market with the gang getting biscuits and punkins!! Can't wait!

Gus

Vaccination Victim

Can anyone tell me how you give 4 vaccines to this little guy?I had to take him to do just that today and he was such a champ although mom almost lost it. Gave me the whole bottom-lip-quivering cry, real tears, and a look that said "why are you trying to kill me?" Poor little fella.

In other news.....he weighs 13lb, 13 oz and is 23 1/4 inches long. That is 90th percentile for weight and 50th percentile for height. His head is in 95th percentile. I think the above hat was made for high schoolers.

Think we'll find out soon!

August in Bed

We have a little routine in the house now. Gus is sleeping 6 hours at a time, nurses, then sleeps 3 hours more. It is so wonderful to get that much sleep for new parents. However, since we usually put him to sleep several hours before we actually go down, we are still sleepy in the morning when he is ready to join the party. So we drag him in bed with us to snuggle. He usually plays quietly while we get a few more minutes of shut eye. He seems to really enjoy the arrangement. We sure do!

Night Cap

This kid can look cute in anything - even this super silly hat our neighbors (not the ones we hang out with I should say) gave us. He's been wearing it to bed since his other knitted hat is stretched out (large noggin) and we must say he looks very cute in it - in sort of a fraggle kind of way.

Hurricane Brings Beautiful Rain

So love a summers rain! Lovely lilies (lycoris) clothed here in tiny turks cap (malvaviscus) flowers.
Cold hardy citrus (poncirus) putting on their late summer show.

Cactus (opuntia) fully fruited

Rain lilies (zephyranthes) rushing back to life. Seen here in full flush following a summery soaking shower.

Boys Night

There comes a time when all parents must trust their new baby to someone else's care. We fortunately have great options for free babysitters with our neighborhood family. Uncle Richard and Uncle Dwayne watched Gus for us while Aaron and I went to eat and run some errands. We returned to find him asleep across Dwayne's lap while he was getting his belly scratched. He was loving it.

Big Smile!

Gus smiling before dad straps him to his chest. His neck is getting just about strong enough to make this more comfortable for him. He seems to be pretty happy about the situation.

More Family Fun

Aaron's mom, Katy, and step dad, Bill, came to visit Gus and celebrate Aaron's 33rd birthday last week. Here is a shot of Grandma Katy introducing herself to Gusser.

Hello Grandpa Bill.

A parting shot in the hotel lobby.

Puzzling Behavior

While the grandparents were in town we started on a project. Aaron innocently purchased a cheap puzzle of Las Vegas at Target thinking it would be fun to put together while family was in town.....

What ensued was a 4-day puzzle obsession with what ended up being a fairly difficult puzzle that kept us up until 1:30 am. This shot: Bill "puzzling" well despite a mid-puzzle injury while trying to assemble The Luxor. We expect a full recovery.

Aaron couldn't be torn away from the puzzle to participate in this family photo so we made do with a picture of the top of his head. Must admit his focus was astounding.

A finished look at the puzzle that nearly killed us. We couldn't bear to tear it apart so we framed it. It is now hanging proudly above the mantle.
